Introducing New Crops to Hawaiian Farmers

There are a vast number of crops that grow in similar Hawaiian climates worldwide that maybe ideal to introduce in Hawaii. We want to explore a number of popular crops that may work in the Hawaiian climates.
The Agri-Hawaii Team is involved with the core trade associations relating to produce (PMA, United Fresh), the core produce buying groups (Frosty Acres, Pro-Act, Produce Alliance, etc) as well to ingredients and food technologists (IFT, Supplyside).

Current Crop Innovations
There are a few entities already growing crops that are dominant in other areas of the world.  There are also different types of trees (more common In other countries) that are ideal to explore for further farming applications in Hawaii.  These include the Baobab Tree, the Moringa Tree, Dragonfruit and the Acai Tree.

Hawaiian Crops Ideal for the Mainland and International Markets
There are a number of existing exotic crops farmed in Hawaii (or naturally grow) that are ideal to explore for Hawaiian based future introductions into the produce industry as well for new ingredients for product development (sports nutrition, plant-based foods, superfoods, etc).
These include Abiu, Banana Dwarf Apple, Acerola, Betel Nut, Bilimbi, Black Sapote, Brazil Cherry, Breadfruit, Cardamom, Curry Leaf, Jaboticaba, Langsat, Longan, Loquat, Lychee, Mamey Sapote, Mangosteen, Miracle Berry, Mountain Apple, Mulberry, Nutmeg, Pak Lan, Pulasan, Rollina, Soursop, Star Apple, Starfruit, Surinam Cherry, Turmeric and White Sapote.
